Davoud Rashidi Awards announces winners

Annual Davoud Rashidi Awards unravels winners in a ceremony at Tehran’s Sangelaj Theater Hall.

Opening of the ceremony was dedicated to the recently-deceased legendary actor Ezzatollah Entezami while attendees observed a moment of silence in his commemoration.

Rashidi’s widow, Ehteram Boroumand, invited the participants to watch parts of the play 'Dictation' that Rashidi staged in the Sangelaj hall some 50 years ago.

Then Rashidi’s adult son and daughter, Farhad and Leili, joined their mother on stage to honor the first winner Jalal Sattari who is an Iranologist, mythologist, writer and translator.

The second honoree was painter, writer and stage director Mohammad Mosavat who went on stage to receive his award and said, “I really needed this award and receiving an award is very good.”

Mojtaba Mirtahmasb also received the award for co-producing documentary series on Iranian entrepreneurs titled 'Karestan'.

The second edition of Davoud Rashidi Awards was launched by late actor’s family to honor cultural figures with outstanding achievements.

Rashidi has starred as Noman bin al-Bashir in the TV series 'The Rise of Mokhtar' and played the role of Priest Monsieur Alfonse in 'The Pahlavi Hat'.

'Hezar Dastan', 'Primrose Flower', 'A Place of Love', 'The Weary-Hearted' and 'The Chat' are some of the TV series in which he has played roles.

He has also taken part in several movies, such as ' Kamal-ol-Molk', 'Lean on the Wind', 'Extreme Cold' and 'Ekbatan'.

His last appearance in Iranian cinema was in 2012 when he acted in Mehrshad Karkhani’s ‘Ekbatan’, while he also had a role in ‘The Pahlavi Hat’ TV series, which was produced by Ziaeddin Dorri.

Born on July 16, 1933, the celebrated actor, who had long been housebound suffering from ailment, died at the age of 83 after suffering a heart attack on August 26, 2016.
